DP World starting new sea-river shipping service in Vietnam
DP World and VIMC Containers launch a new domestic route connecting Vietnamese river and sea ports.
The UAE-terminal and logistics company is partnering the Vietnam line in the new domestic sea-river transport route, the Mekong Express, connecting the ports of Can Tho and Cai Mep.
The new service will operate twice a week and reduce transit times of 48 hours by the river ways to just 15 hours via a combination of river and sea routes.
DP World said new service is more sustainable alternative to road transport, generating 60% less carbon emissions. Equipped with real-time digital cargo tracking and carbon monitoring, DP World and VIMC Lines expect the service to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2026.

Designed to support dry and cold chain logistics, the service can transport up to several hundred teus per voyage and refrigerated containers.
The partners plan to expand the route to include a call at the Saigon Premier Container Terminal, in Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) the only roll-on/roll-off port in Southern Vietnam, which is operated by DP World, and a call at Saigon Hiep Phuoc Port under VIMC Container Lines’ parent company Vietnam Maritime Corporation.
